The Best Leaders are the Best Learners

According to research by Kouzes & Posner (The Truth About Leadership, 2010) the best leaders really are the best learners.  We are committed to equipping every student to be successful in the classroom and as a leader on our campus and in the world.  Every freshman student at ETBU takes learning and leading (LEAD 1111) as a part of our commitment to empowering you as a leader.

Students in Learning and Leading are equipped to:

  • Be successful as a college-level learner
  • Build the character necessary for credibility in leadership
  • Enhance their skills for leadership

Leading as Servants

We believe it is important that leaders serve others through the love of Christ and that they lead in humility as servants of Christ.

Each learning and leading class participates in a service project during their semester together.  In recent years students have served at a number of locations throughout Marshall, including:

  • Robert E. Lee Elementary and J. H. Moore Elementary
  • My Friend's House
  • Boys and Girls Club of the Big Pines

Building Character for Leadership

During weekly meetings, Learning & Leading classes discuss characteristics of effective learners and leaders.  Topics include:

  • humility
  • empathy
  • vision
  • time-management
  • collaboration
  • listening
