ETBU Nursing Students Respond to Mock Disaster

MARSHALL, Texas (1/09/15) - A mock disaster of a vehicle crash with injuries occurred on the East Texas Baptist University Cornish Soccer Field during the past fall semester. The ones responding to the planned chaos were ETBU nursing students; the practice exercise was planned by students in the Medical Surgical II class.

Former ETBU Basketball Player One of the First MBA grads

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER: (12/23/14) -  Zwolle, Louisiana, native Sade "Slim" Stewart came to East Texas Baptist University with two things on her mind after graduating as valedictorian from high school in 2004 - getting her education and playing basketball.

Stewart has always played basketball.

"I started playing at the age of 3, and then I got injured in college at the age of 21 as a senior," she said.

ETBU Alum Goes From Fire To Highways

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (12/27/14) - Melissa Goodreau recently completed training to become an officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety. She will be stationed in northwest Texas after January 17, 2015.

Melissa Goodreau, 29, of Marshall, wasn't a typical girl when she was growing up.

According to her dad, Bobby, Melissa Goodreau was into everything.

"She was always interested in hunting and fishing," Bobby Goodreau said, "and she would crawl under the truck and help me fix it."

ETBU interim president looks forward to enrollment growth, new programs

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (1/4/15) - Lawrence Ressler, interim president of East Texas Baptist University, arrived in Marshall in 2013 to serve as interim provost, and didn't expect to stay longer than six months.

That was until Samuel W. "Dub" Oliver announced his resignation in February of 2014 as ETBU's president. Ressler was then named by the board of trustees as the interim president of the college.

The beginning of the fall semester marked Ressler's first as ETBU's interim president.

ETBU Named To The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for 4th Consecutive Year

MARSHALL, Texas (12/17/14) - For the fourth consecutive year, East Texas Baptist University has been named to the 2014 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This designation is the highest honor a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement.
