ETBU Tigers look to 'elevate' program in 2016

Many coaches and players of the ETBU football team are wearing bracelets with the word 'Elevate' written on it as head coach Scotty Walden said that sums up the team goals heading into the 2016 season.

"Our team motto this year is 'Elevate,'" Walden said. "We want to elevate this program to the next level and we want to elevate our kids' lives to the next level, spiritually, academically and athletically and that's what we're setting out to do. That's the motto we're going to live by this year.

ETBU Starts 2016 Football Season

MARSHALL, Texas - It's a new year with a new coach but the same philosophy for East Texas Baptist University football as the team started the 2016 season. They reported on Wednesday afternoon and had their first practice on Thursday.

Head coach Scotty Walden, who is the youngest head coach in all of NCAA at 26 years old, enters his first year leading the program. After three years as the offensive coordinator, he was promoted to head coach when Joshua Eargle left in January.

East Texas Baptist Named ASC Athletic Training Staff of The Year

East Texas Baptist receives its second ASC Athletic Training Staff of the Year Award. The East Texas Baptist athletic training staff consists of three members led by head athletic trainer Marcus Holliday, assistant trainers Barrett Jones and Heidi Hendrickson and graduate assistant Jeannette Utterback.
 
"This is a blessing," said Holliday. "To be recognized by your colleagues for an award like this is an honor."

Bateman signs with East Texas Baptist

Athens graduate Jeremy Bateman signed a baseball college letter of intent Wednesday making him the third player to sign from last year's class.

Bateman will be joining the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in Marshall. He leaves for the first day of class Aug. 17 to get ready for his studies as a physical therapist.

ETBU Named ABCA Team Excellence Award Winner

MARSHALL, Texas - Awards keep piling up for the 2016 East Texas Baptist University baseball team as they have been named an ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) Team Excellence Award winner. This honor goes to programs that have a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

ETBU was just one of four programs in Texas that earned the award in NCAA Division III. They were also just one of two ASC (American Southwest Conference) teams to be recognized. Mary Hardin-Baylor and SCAC programs Southwestern University and Schreiner University also earned the honor.
