MNM: ETBU chief headed to D.C. over birth control

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER: (2/4/16) - East Texas Baptist University President Blair Blackburn is headed to the nation's capital to support the university's fight for religious liberty, he said Tuesday.

U.S. Supreme Court justices are set to begin hearing oral arguments at 10 a.m. on March 23.

The university, joined in the suit by Houston Baptist University and Westminster Theological Seminary, is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse a recent lower court decision that requires the school to provide contraceptive coverage in its employee insurance or face federal fines.

ETBU Holds Meyer Lecture Series

MARSHALL, Texas (2/1/16) - The 2016 Meyer Lecture Series went on as planned on Monday, Jan 25 at East Texas Baptist University even though the keynote speaker, Peter Greer, President of Hope International, could not attend. Meyer was unable to travel to Texas due to the northeastern snowstorm.

Weekend Tiger Athletics- Basketball & Tennis Starts the Spring Season

BASKETBALL (M): MARSHALL, Texas (1/30/16) -  Boosted by Bret Atkins' 33-point performance, the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team withstood a hard-charging second-half effort by the University of Texas-Tyler to win, 69-64, on Saturday afternoon inside of Ornelas Gym. Atkins hit eight three-pointers and making seven straight in the first half.

ETBU ups its overall record to 15-4 and 8-2 in American Southwest Conference games and is currently on a season-best seven-game winning streak. Additionally, the team improves to 9-1 on its home court this season.

Military Appreciation Game

MARSHALL, Texas (1/28/16) - Thursday night will be a special night in Ornelas Gym as the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team host Military Appreciation Night. The men's basketball team would like to honor all those that are currently serving and have served for our country.

"We just want to honor our current and former veterans here in Marshall for what they have done for us and this country," says head coach Bert West. "We want to take time to say thank you to the people that do the hard jobs for us to do what we want to do."
