The Department of Communication Studies seeks to provide students pursuing a degree in mass communication or speech communication with the theoretical foundations and practical knowledge of effective personal and public communication principles. The department offers courses in the general education curriculum and majors in three sequences: Speech Communication, Speech Education, and Mass Communication. We also offer minors in Worship Arts, Public Relations, and Film and Media Studies.

|The ETBU Debate Team was revived in the Fall of 2008 after many years of inactivity. The team travels to several tournaments including the International Public Debate Association National Championship Tournament during the season. The team is open to any student regardless of major. ETBU sponsors a chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, a honor society administered by the National Communication Association. The honor society is open to Communication Studies majors and minors who are juniors or seniors and have at least a 3.25 GPA in communication classes. New members are inducted each year. The chapter participates in numerous service activities throughout the year.
