ETBU Hosts Band Camp for Area High Schools

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (7/28/15) - With most East Texas students returning to school in less than a month, athletics and extra curricular teams are jumping back into the swing of things with two-a-day practices, rehearsals and camps.

The same is true for nearby districts Harleton, Beckville and Ore City ISDs this week as they bunk down at East Texas Baptist University for band camp.

"We'll be here until Friday," Harleton ISD band director Hunter Barrett said Monday. "This is our first time meeting as a full band this year."

Former ETBU English Professor Henry Hood, Jr. Passes Away

MARSHALL, Texas (7/27/15) - A former East Texas Baptist University English professor Henry Hood, Jr., (63), passed away at his home on Friday, July 24, 2015. Hood taught at ETBU from 1980 2000. Funeral service will be held at at Meadowbrook Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.

He was born in Catlettsburg, Kentucky on November 4, 1951, to Henry Hood, Sr. and Fern McGlone Hood. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Donna Hood; and his brothers-in-law, Larry Overman, Thomas Allemang, Richard Osborne and Ronnie Lawhorn.

Sharing a promise from God in Rhode Island

BGCT BLOG (7/21/15) - Growing up in the South meant everyone had heard of God and Christianity. That was just the way life was. Even if someone didn't believe, they were well aware of the faith. I hadn't met someone who had never heard of God. No matter where I had served on mission trips, the people I shared the Gospel with knew something about God and the Bible. That all changed on July 13, 2015.

ETBU's Conner Combs MVP of NYCBL All-Star Game

ONEONTA, New York (7/17/15) - Summer college baseball only keeps getting better for Conner Combs as he represents East Texas Baptist University in New York. On Thursday night, July 16, he was named the New York Collegiate Baseball League All-Star MVP.

Playing for the Western Division and representing the Niagara Power, Combs went 2-of-2 at the plate with a double and a triple for two RBI and a run scored. He also fielded six grounders cleanly with no errors in his time on the field.

MNM: Campers Invade ETBU To Hone Debate Skills

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (7/18/15) - Domestic surveillance by the government in the U.S. is a hot topic of late, so it was no surprise it turned up on the list of topics to be debated on Friday during the annual Texas Speech and Debate Camp at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.

More than 200 high school students from across the state spent the week at the university honing their debate skills or learning the craft for the first time.
