MARSHALL, Texas (1/09/16) - One East Texas Baptist University Department of Music professor will travel a great distance in order to make the first day of spring classes on Monday (Jan.11). ETBU Director of Bands Mark Crim has spent the first full week of 2016 in Mikkeli, Finland conducting the Mikkelin Kaupunginorchesteri (St. Michel String Orchestra) and serving as faculty for the conducting masterclass there.
 

BASKETBALL (W): BROWNWOOD, Texas (2/7/16) - A last second defensive effort and clutch shooting along with three players scoring in double figures helped the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team to a six point win, 77-71, over Howard Payne University. It was ETBU's first win in Brownwood, Texas, since 2000-01 as they improved to 10-2 overall and remained undefeated in American Southwest Conference play at 4-0.

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (12/20/15) - "A time of worship and celebration" is how Dr. J. Blair Blackburn, president of East Texas Baptist University, described Saturday's fall commencement, as ETBU bestowed degrees upon 82 graduates.

"Some universities have both the baccalaureate religious service and commencement ceremony (at different times)," Blackburn said. "At ETBU, both programs are joined together in both services.

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (12/22/15) - East Texas Baptist University and Marshall Police have teamed up to offer specialized training in the event of an active shooter scenario on campus.

The university donated $2,000 on Monday to the Marshall police for purchase of force on force training marking weapons. The weapons look similar to a gun and shoot plastic tipped ammunition that leave a mark on the target after making contact.

BASKETBALL (M): TYLER, Texas (12/29/15) - Competing in the University of Texas-Tyler Christmas Classic, the No. 15-ranked East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team edged Southwestern (Texas) University, 70-60, on Saturday afternoon inside of the Herrington Patriot Center. The result pushes ETBU's record to 8-1, and moves Southwestern to 3-7.
