The East Texas Baptist University Hilltop Singers were invited to perform a showcase concert at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Annual Conference, which took place February 12-15, 2025, in San Antonio. This opportunity placed the Hilltop Singers among the most outstanding performing ensembles across Texas, showcasing their excellence and the distinction of ETBU’s Music Department.
The 11-voice ensemble, which serves as the outreach arm of ETBU’s Choral Music Program, was selected through a competitive application process reviewed by TMEA leadership. Their performance was a testament to the skill and artistry of the students and faculty at ETBU.
The Hilltop Singers traveled to San Antonio on February 12 to participate in the TMEA conference. In addition to their performance, the students engaged in workshops, attended concerts, and interacted with over 25,000 music educators and All-State student performers from Texas and beyond.
“It was an incredible honor for the Hilltop Singers to be selected for this showcase performance,” Director of Choral Activities Dr. Pat Antinone said. “This recognition reflected the hard work and dedication of our students and highlighted the exceptional music program at ETBU. I am proud of our singers and their commitment to the choral art, and I am grateful to TMEA for acknowledging their talent and effort.”
Dr. Douglas Lockard, Dean of the School of Communication and Performing Arts at ETBU, added, “The selection of the Hilltop Singers to perform at TMEA’s Annual Conference was a moment of great pride for ETBU. This honor underscored the university’s commitment to artistic excellence and the transformative power of music. We celebrate this milestone achievement with Dr. Antinone and the entire ensemble.”
The TMEA Annual Conference is one of the largest music education events in the world, drawing educators, performers, and students for a vibrant celebration of musical achievement and collaboration.
