ETBU Debate Team

National_Champion.jpgThe ETBU Debate Team travels to 7-8 debate tournaments during the year. We are part of the International Public Debate Association. The ETBU Debate Team was reactivated in 2008 after many years of inactivity. In only a short period of time, the debate team has become one of the most vibrant and fastest-growing student organizations on campus. The team has won numerous regional and national championships. Some highlights of the 2013-2014 year were:

  • ETBU finished the season ranked 5th nationally in the Professional Division of the International Public Debate Association.
  • ETBU finished the season ranked 7th nationally overall in the International Public Debate Association.
  • ETBU attended the International Public Debate Association National Championship Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
  • ETBU Debate Coach Cole Franklin served as the Chair of the IPDA Governing Board for the 2013-2014 year and was re-elected to the Governing Board for a three-year term.
  • ETBU had a large number of new team members join in 2013-2014. Many experienced great successes:ETBU_Debate_Team.jpg
    • Charles Quigley finished the season ranked in the Top 20 novice debaters nationally.
    • Ro Burns advanced to elimination rounds in numerous tournaments during the year.
    • Emily Bailey was a finalist at the College of the Mainland debate tournament.
    • Madysen Neathery was a finalist at the Mississippi College debate tournament.
    • Amanda Gill was a semifinalist at the LSU-Shreveport debate tournament.
