The Symphonic Band meets in the spring semester and is the premiere instrumental ensemble at ETBU. The band tours regionally and nationally every two years, and performs concerts on campus, in the Marshall community and in churches and schools throughout the area. The band programs classic band literature as well as the newest compositions by today’s composers. The band has recently participated in commissioning new compositions by David Holsinger and Gregory Youtz.
THE ETBU BAND TRAVELS TO CHICAGO
In March, 2015 the Symphonic Band traveled by train from Marshall to Chicago to perform in the prestigious Percy Grainger Festival held at Orchestra Hall, home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The band performed music of Grainger, Holst, Handel and a new transcription of a Ralph Vaughn Williams work by local composer-arranger James Mears. The band's itinerary included a tour of the Art Institute of Chicago and a performance by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
The Symphonic Band is comprised of music majors studying to be professional musicians and music teachers as well as students from nearly every academic discipline. It is open by audition to any student attending ETBU. Interested high school students are invited to sit in with the band during our regular reheasal time Monday-Thursday from 4-5:15pm.
