Admission Requirements


We are always happy to help you through the application process. Throughout the process, you should be looking towards these milestones:  general acceptance into the University, provisional acceptance in the M.Ed. Program, full acceptance into the M.Ed. Program, and enrollment. To accomplish these, you will need to complete the appropriate steps for your Track of choice.


Curriculum & Instruction Track:


1)    Fill out the application online.

2)    Pay the $50 application fee.

3)    We will need an official transcript indicating that you have completed your bachelor’s degree (if you are graduating from ETBU, we already have access to your official transcript). You will need to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a 2.6 overall GPA in your undergraduate work.

4)    Print, complete, and submit the criminal history form found online (you can fax it to 903-935-4318 or mail the completed form)

5)    Pay the $25 fee to complete the criminal history check.

6)    Register for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). You can register for the test at www.takethegre.com. Request that a score report be sent to East Texas Baptist University Admissions Office.


Sports & Exercise Leadership Track:


1)    Fill out the application online,

Teacher Certification Track:

2)    Pay the $50 application fee.

3)    We will need an official transcript indicating that you have completed your bachelor’s degree. You will need to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, a 2.75 overall GPA in your undergraduate work, and a 3.0 overall GPA in your field of study to qualify.
•    In order to teach in secondary subject, you must have 24 hours of course work done in that subject you desire certification in, with at least 12 of those hours being upper level courses.
•    For elementary, you must have a combined total of 24 hours in course work done in core content areas (math, social studies, science, English/language arts).

7)    The state of Texas requires any student entering a teacher preparation program to complete 30 hours of observation in a Texas Public School (or approves Texas private school) in the area you desire to teach. This requirement must be filled before entering the program. Most schools will let you sign up as a volunteer or substitute in the school without this. Simply contact the approved school of your choice for more information. Upon application we will send you the log sheets to fill out for this requirement.

8)    You will need to take and pass the TExES Content Exam before you may enter our program. You can find out more about how to register for this exam here.

9)    A TB test (tuberculosis test) is required. You can have this done at you doctor’s office or the local clinic. Simply fax, mail, or bring me the results of the test. The admissions office may need you to also show proof of the bacterial meningitis vaccine. You may want to contact admissions at 903-923-2000 for more information on this state requirement.
