Spring, 2006:
She Loves Me
by Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick
A Romantic Comedy Musical produced by the combined efforts of the Theatre and Music Department
Based on the same source material as the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan movie You've Got Mail, as well as the classic James Stewart movie The Shop Around the Corner, She Loves Me is a crowd pleaser to be sure. George is in love with a woman he's never met - except through the mail of a personal ad. She's intelligent, polite and sophisticated - just the opposite of his new co-worker, Amalia, who also seems to have a pen pal. Romantic entanglements and love songs fly fast and furious in this charming romantic comedy by the Tony Award winning songwriting team from FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and the author of CABARET.
This production marked the first musical at ETBU in many years. The ETBU Hilltop Players, under the direction of new faculty member Charlie Pepiton, took a fresh look at this old favorite. With inspiration for this production ranging from Saturday morning cartoons to the inner workings of a coo-coo clock, audiences enjoyed an evening of innovative, fast-paced romantic laughter.
Appearing in this production were Jennifer Battarbee as Amalia, Ryan Thompson as George, Courtney Brinker as Ilona, Andrew O'Kelley as Kodaly, Michael McClary as Sipos, Taylor Johnson as Mr Maraczek, Nathaniel Niemi as Arpad, and Paul Tapp as the waiter. The cast was anchored by chorus members Katherine Bauer, K'lynn Childress, Rachel Farley, Gabriela Hernandez, and Rachel Penny.
