Piano Audition Requirements
Students auditioning in piano should prepare two works from different style periods from the standard classical repertoire. For strongest consideration, the works should be performed from memory.
The following repertoire list may serve as a guideline:
Baroque Period:
Bach: Two- and Three-part Inventions, Preludes and Fugues, Dance Movements from French or English Suites or Partitas
Scarlatti: Sonatas
Handel: Suite movements
Classical Period:
Beethoven: 1stor last movements of sonatas
Mozart: 1stor last movements of sonatas
Haydn: 1stor last movements of sonatas
Romantic Period:
Chopin: Nocturnes, preludes, etudes, mazurkas, polonaises, etc.
Schumann: selections from Scenes from Childhood, Fantasiestucke, etc.
Mendelssohn: Songs without words, scherzi, Rondo capriccioso, etc
Liszt: any work
Brahms: any work
Grieg: selections from Lyric Pieces
Twentieth Century:
Bartok: selections from Mikrokosmos
Barber: Excursions
Muczynski: Preludes, Op. 6
Kabalevsky: Preludes, Sonatinas
Debussy: selections from Children's Corner Suite, Arabesques
Copland: Cat and Mouse
