The Department of Education is responsible for maintaining a strong program of preparation for prospective public and private school teachers. Among the purposes of the department are to (1) provide a quality professional preparation program leading to certification in Texas, (2) provide a strong academic foundation, (3) provide practical applications through site-based experiences, and (4) promote ethical and professional practices.

ETBU offers programs leading to certification in the following areas:

Elementary (EC-6) Interdisciplinary Majors with Middle Level (4-8) specializations in:

• English Language Arts and Reading
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies

Secondary (8-12) Majors in the following areas:

• Plan I = 1 teaching field,
• Plan II = 2 teaching fields,
• Plan III = 1 teaching field + 1 non-teaching field
