Canned Food Drive Set for Final Home Football Gameby Adam Ledyard
MARSHALL, Texas (10/31/13) – Partnering up with Mission Marshall and the food pantry, the East Texas Baptist University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be having a year-long canned food drive in part with the American Southwest Conference "Make A Change” competition. The first canned food drive will be on Saturday, November 2nd, at ETBU’s last home football game vs. Mississippi College.
"The ASC decided this year to do a competition that lasted the entire year that would benefit the community and all the schools,” says sports information director and SAAC advisor Adam P. Ledyard. "Each school will record the amount of canned food given all year and in the end the ASC will announce how many cans were donated by each school. In the end we are all winners as we each program is helping out the community.”
The ASC’s "Make A Change” competition started this fall and will continue in the winter and spring sports at a given home date for collection. Each program will record how many cans have been donated to the local non-profit and turn it into the ASC. In the end the program that has donated the most canned goods will be the winner and the ASC will be able to record how many items were donated overall for the entire year.
On Saturday, the first 100 people that donate a canned good will be able to receive a gift certificate to CiCi’s Pizza, Jalapeno Tree, JUCY’s Hamburger’s, or Gateway Tire and Service Center in Marshall. Each person will only be allowed on certificate but they can bring as many canned goods as they want.
ETBU SAAC president, and current softball player, Maranda Westbrook will be collecting the canned goods at the main gate of Ornelas Stadium on Saturday.
