Judge Sam B. Hall Jr. Lecture Series and Banquet, February 18, at ETBU
MARSHALL, Texas (2/11/13)- The 2013 Sam B. Hall Jr. Lecture and Banquet will be held on Monday, February 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Phillips Great Room on the first floor of the Bennett Student Commons at East Texas Baptist University. The lecture series program commemorates the late U.S. Representative and federal judge Sam B. Hall, Jr., who was a Marshall native and an alumnus of the College of Marshall, which is now ETBU.
Dr. Ronald A. Wells, Professor Emeritus of Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and presently Director of the Maryville Symposium on Faith and Learning at Maryville College in Tennessee, is the 2013 Hall Lecturer. The program will also include the announcement of the fourth annual Sam B. Hall Jr. Civic Service Award recipient. Previous awardees were Madeleine Segal Hall, Ray and Mona Lawson of Marshall, and Sue Jordan.
Tickets for the event are $35 per person and can be reserved by calling the ETBU School of Humanities at (903) 923-2083 or by email at humanities@etbu.edu. Interested individuals or groups may inquire to reserve an entire table. Advance reservations are recommended by February 14 as seating is limited.
The Sam B. Hall Professorship and the Lecture Series were endowed in 1993 by the family and friends of Congressman and U.S. District Judge Sam B. Hall, Jr. A native of Marshall and an alumnus of the College of Marshall, now ETBU, and the Baylor University School of Law, Judge Hall was a member and president of several civic organizations and the Marshall Regional Medical Center before his death in 1994. The Hall Professor of History is Dr. Jerry L. Summers, Dean of the School of Humanities at ETBU.
