ETBU Baseball Has Drive to Be Better in ASC East
RICHARDSON, Texas (1/30/13)– Under new leadership, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team heads into the 2013 season looking to improve upon their fourth place finish in 2012. New head coach Lee Driggers enters his first season at ETBU but has been in NCAA Division III for 17 years winning four American Southwest Conference championships while at McMurry University.
ETBU finished last year with a 12-24 record and tied for fourth in the ASC at 7-11. In the 2013 ASC Preseason Poll, ETBU has been picked to finish in sixth place with 53 votes. ETBU has two players that are on the "14 Players to Watch” list for the ASC in sophomore outfielder Matty Sullivan and sophomore pitcher Zach Tampke.
Sullivan started 35 games last year and batted .288 with 18 RBI and 16 doubles. Tampke pitched in 29.2 innings and had 16 strikeouts while starting three games and appearing in 11.
