ETBU Partners with East Texas Special Olympics
MARSHALL, Texas (1/16/13) – Partnering with the East Texas Special Olympics, East Texas Baptist University will have the area 7 chapter on campus Thursday night for the American Southwest Conference East matchup against LeTourneau University. This is the first event of the year for the ETBU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
"This is a big step for the ETBU SAAC as we grow this partnership with Special Olympics and build up our SAAC organization,” says advisor and Director of Sports Information Adam P. Ledyard. "Lya Swaner has done a great job of coordinating with Rickey Lopez of the East Texas chapter to put this event together. We hope that this first step will lead to many more outings with the East Texas Special Olympics chapter.”
Area 7 Special Olympics will be coming to the game on Thursday night to watch ETBU face rival LeTourneau University. Two different Special Olympic teams will be coming to watch the game from Longview and Tyler. The East Texas Lighting from Longview will be at the women’s basketball game with a team from Tyler cheering on the men’s basketball team.
The NCAA Division III and Special Olympics have established a partnership to improve the lives of Special Olympics athletes through their involvement with Division III student-athletes and to foster a mutual learning experience between Division III student-athletes and Special Olympics athletes.
