Tiger Basketball vs. UT-Dallas

BASKETBALL (M): RICHARDSON, Texas (1/10/13) – With the game tied at 15 in the first half East Texas Baptist University (6-8/2-6) scored only one point over five minutes at the University of Texas-Dallas (10-4/6-3) put 16 points on the board for a 15-point advantage taking control of the game. Texas-Dallas went onto to take the American Southwest Conference East game, 79-49.
Jaron Joseph collected a career-high 25 points as he scored over half of the ETBU’s points. He shot 10-of-17 from the floor as he scored over 20 points for the second time this year. Justin Felicia led the team with seven rebounds.
The first 10 minutes of the game went back and forth with three ties and four lead changes. Joseph gave ETBU their first lead, 3-2, with his first points canning a three-pointer. Texas-Dallas then took a 4-3 lead before ETBU went on a 5-0 run. Felicia started the run with a layup and then Eric Horton swooshed in a three-pointer for the four-point lead.
Texas-Dallas responded with a 9-2 run for a three-point lead, 13-10, but the game came to a third tie on a 5-2 ETBU run to make it 15 all. Joseph tied the game at 15 with his seventh points of the game. From that point on, Texas-Dallas took over the half with a 16-1 run for a 15-point lead, 31-16. ETBU went into the half trailing by 17, 35-18.
ETBU started the second half on an 11-3 run to bring Texas-Dallas’ lead down to nine, 38-29. Joseph put in six of the 11 points while Felicia hit back-to-back shots for five points in the run. In the next 10 minutes, Texas-Dallas out scored ETBU, 28-10 for a 27-point lead, 66-39.
Texas-Dallas shot 47% from the floor and three-point range and made 81% of their free throws. ETBU finished making 32% of their shots while making 30% from the three-point line and 55% from the stripe. Texas-Dallas had 37 rebounds to ETBU’s 29.
ETBU travels to Arkansas for an ASC East game on Saturday against the University of the Ozarks at 3:00 p.m.
Shooting Woes in 2nd Half Can ETBU's Chance for Upset
BASKETBALL (W): RICHARDSON, Texas (1/10/12) – Early in the second half the University of Texas-Dallas (12-2/8-1) produced a 20-3 run over six minutes erasing East Texas Baptist University’s (9-5/4-4) four-point lead as the Comets finished with a 10-point win, 67-57. ETBU had a five-point halftime lead and secured the lead for the first four minutes of the second half before Texas-Dallas went on their run.
Three players scored 10 points each for ETBU in Brandice Latin, Mary Slaughter, and Adaeze Elonu. Slaughter was the top rebounder with eight.
Holding onto a five-point lead heading into the second half, ETBU did not score until the 17:09 mark. Texas-Dallas opened up with a 6-0 run to take a one-point lead, 35-34, but an Amanda Rucker jumper put ETBU back in front, 36-35. Two more points came from Slaughter at the free throw line as she made both with 16:26 left in the game and then 30 seconds later Jaimie Kadlecek went 1-of-2 to put the lead at four, 39-35. Over the next six minutes, ETBU would score only three points as Texas-Dallas took over the game on their 20-3 run. By the 8:15 mark, Texas-Dallas had a 15-point lead, 57-42, as their lead never dipped below 10 points after that.
ETBU had a great first half after starting off slow. They were down five, 8-3, just four minutes into the game when they on an 11-0 run over six and half minutes for a six-point lead, 14-8. Elonu put in five points in the run while Latin added four. Two more ties came after that with the third tie at 25 with 4:49 left to play. ETBU finished the half on a 9-4 run for the five-point lead at the half.
Texas-Dallas shot 39% overall making 83% of their free throws but shot only 20% from beyond the arc. ETBU finished shooting 24% from the floor, 21% from the three-point line, and 75% from the foul line. Both teams rebounded well as Texas-Dallas had 46 to ETBU’s 44 rebounds. ETBU forced 25 turnovers and had 10 steals.
ETBU travels to Arkansas to face the University of the Ozarks on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in an ASC East game.
