ETBU To Award 50 With Degrees at Fall Commencement

MARSHALL, Texas (12/13/12)- East Texas Baptist University will award 50 students with degrees at Fall Commencement on Saturday, December 15, at 10:00 a.m. in Baker Auditorium of the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center. Presiding will be ETBU President Dr. Samuel W. "Dub” Oliver.
The charge to graduates will be delivered by Dallas attorney and ETBU alum E. Leon Carter. Carter is a partner and founding principal of Carter Stafford Arnett Hamada & Mockler, PLLC. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America. Carter, a 1980 graduate of ETBU, earned a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University in 1986. While at ETBU, Carter was a three year letterman on the Tiger basketball team and had an outstanding academic and athletic career. ETBU honored him in 2010 with a Distinguished Alumnus Award. Carter is a native of Carthage, Texas, and is a member of the Carthage High School Hall of Fame.
The invocation will be given by ETBU Enrollment and Clinical Excellence administrator in the Department of Nursing Alysce Parish. Mrs. Parish is the wife of Nicholas Parish who will receive his Bachelor of Science degree in University Studies.
Sam Moseley of Marshall, Chair of the ETBU Board of Trustees will bring greetings from the board. Scripture will be read by Tyler Christian Kenefake. Mr. Kenefake will receive his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education degree.
Special music will be performed by the University Singers under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Justin Hodges. Dean of the School of Fine Arts, Dr. Tom Webster will direct the congregational music. The organist for the ceremony will be Robert Wright, University Organist and Accompanist.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Sherilyn Emberton, assisted by the academic deans, will present the graduating class. Bachelor of Music graduate in All-Level Music Education, Ms. Robyn Olivia Wattigney will offer the benedictions.
ETBU has offered a quality Christ-centered education since 1912. The 100 year old Christian university offers a challenging curriculum in more than forty areas of study. Graduate programs are offered in business, counseling, teacher education, and religion.
