Symphonic Band set to tour Texas
Clayton Pike
The ETBU Symphonic
Band left Wednesday for a
three-day touring session, going almost as far as Houston
to perform concerts at four
different venues.
The Symphonic Band
goes on tour every two years.
The theme for this year’s
tour is the “3Gs”, representing composers of the early
20th century, the mid-20th
century, and the 21st century.
The group departed
Wednesday morning, traveling down US-59 to four high
schools along the US-59 corridor. The performances not
only entertain and enrich the
high school audiences, but
help the group get ready for
their concert Friday night on
the ETBU campus.
The band performed at
Elysian Fields, Diboll, Kingwood, and Morton Ranch
High School in Katy.
After their tour concludes, the band will make
the long trek back up US-59
in order to return to ETBU on
Friday. Later that night the
band will perform a concert
at 7:30 p.m. on the Baker Auditorium stage in the Ornelas
Spiritual Life Center.
The ETBU Symphonic
Band will perform a variety of pieces. The pieces of
music chosen are American
Overture for Band by Joseph
Willcox Jenkins, Bugler’s
Holiday by Leroy Anderson
and the English Folk
Song Suite by Ralph Vaughn
Williams. The last two pieces performed are Eric Whitacre’s October and Samuel R.
Hazo’s Ride.
Students and faculty of
East Texas Baptist University
are invited to come support
the Symphonic Band and to
enjoy some good band music
on Friday evening.
