Lady Tigers roll over trinity
Tyler Riley
The Tigers moved to 4-0
on the season by completing
a sweep of Trinity University on Saturday. ETBU easily put game one away by a
score of 7-0, but the Tigers
played their closest game of
the year by defeating Trinity, 4-3. Kelly Jo McLendon
won game two for her first
collegiate win at ETBU, and
if this is any indication of
how the freshman can maintain consistency in a heated
environment, it will not be
her last.
At the plate in game one,
the team was led by Kelsey
DeCarolis, who tallied four
hits on the day, and Lacy
Liles who hit a three-run home bomb. ETBU scored
all seven runs in the fifth, ultimately closing the door on
Trinity. The winning pitchers for the day were Tawny
Hank in game one and Kelly
Jo McLendon in game two.
Hank went the full seven innings giving up only four hits
and garnering four strikeouts.
Game two proved to be
a bit more of a composure
test for freshman pitcher
Kelly Jo McLendon. It took
extra innings for the sweep,
but ETBU took the series.
The game ended when Trinity pitching walked Maranda
Westbrook with the bases
loaded, allowing Mallory
Westbrook to come in as the
winning run. Trinity showed
the Tigers their first sign of
vulnerability by securing a
two run lead that went into
the fourth inning. ETBU
scored a run in the fourth and
tied the game in the sixth before winning in the eighth.
Shelby Parker started the
game and went four innings
for the no decision. She had
six strikeouts and gave up
three earned runs on four hits.
McLendon went the next four
innings and recorded five
strikeouts and had only two
hits. She showed true promise by pitching out of a bases
loaded jam with one out in
the top of the eighth inning to
get the win.
