Harris, defense lead opening charge in 33-20 win
La CROSSE, Wis. (9/4/10) – Quarterback Sed Harris and a host of East Texas Baptist Tigers produced big play after big play Saturday night, and the result was a thrilling 33-20 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse at UWL's Roger Harring Stadium. The victory puts the Tigers at 1-0 to start a season for the first time in nine years, and snapped a 12-game losing streak to non-conference opponents...READ MORE |
Guillory drops pounds, adds punch to offensive line
MARSHALL, Texas (9/1/10) – East Texas Baptist senior guard Jason Guillory is less of a player than he was last season, his first as a starter on the offensive line for the Tigers. And that is a good thing, both Guillory and ETBU coaches readily will admit. Guillory, the Tigers’ mammoth 6-4, 340-pound left guard, shed over 40 pounds in the offseason and has been described as one of the team’s most improved players over the offseason. He will provide senior leadership along the offensive line this season, a key unit if ETBU is to reverse its offensive fortunes of the last couple of years. But don’t expect Guillory to lead with a lot of screaming and yelling. He’s a big, intimidating guy, sure, but that’s just not the DeSoto, Texas, native’s style....READ MORE |
Linebacker Wright looking to make noise on Saturdays
MARSHALL, Texas (9/1/10) – Friday night lights in east Texas means a lot to Steven Wright. The former Jefferson Bulldog starred just north of Marshall on Friday nights in the fall before picking East Texas Baptist in 2008 as the place where he wanted to play college football. Entering his third year with the Tigers in 2010, Wright is hoping to rekindle those feelings of Friday night high school football on Saturday nights and afternoons. Wright is expected to get his first real chance at playing time on the linebacker depth chart this season. The former Jefferson standout has been groomed his first two seasons at ETBU on the junior varsity, but now as a junior he is listed as one of the favorite to earn a spot in the two-deep roster at inside linebacker...READ MORE |
Finch muscles his way into position at free safety
MARSHALL, Texas (8/31/10) – At first glance, East Texas Baptist senior Cody Finch doesn’t look like a football player, certainly not one entering his fourth season of college football. Standing just a shade above 5-7, and right at 170 pounds, Finch doesn’t have the intimidating look of your traditional, middle-of-the-field safety. But what can’t be seen is on the inside, and it’s that competitive, bulldog-type nature of Cody Finch that has vaulted him into a key position as a leader of the 2010 Tiger defense. Finch provides a heart and soul...READ MORE |
Kreymer sees benefits of hard work, perseverance
MARSHALL, Texas (8/30/10) – Even the most rabid of East Texas Baptist football fans could be excused for thinking senior defensive tackle Chris Kreymer is a newcomer this season to the Tigers. In a way, he probably is – to the particular role he has been thrust into entering the 2010 season....READ MORE |
Hubbard's development strengthens ETBU quarterback depth
MARSHALL, Texas (8/26/10) – As a senior at Hawkins High School back in 2006, Trent Ledkins had a decision to make. A standout offensive player for the Hawks during his high school career, Ledkins was taking visits and being recruited by several schools, including American Southwest Conference rivals East Texas Baptist and Mary Hardin-Baylor...READ MORE |
